Rev limiter

Recently ran my savage full throttle,on local hwy measured mile to see what it could do. At the end of mile when I backed off the throttle, the engine acted as if it kicked in to neutral and just reved. A second or two later it was back in gear and running fine. Was this the revlimiter, false neutral or ???
